Yo, Canada

I just spent two weeks in Ontario on my honeymoon.

Before I left, I told John that I’d come back and write something appropriately inflammatory about Canada – something that would set US/Canada relationships back to 1812.

But, I… I can’t…

Because Canada turned out to be awesome. Seriously, totally awesome. It was like I stepped into a Frank Capra movie.

Every Canadian I met loved Canada, and not in a “God bless the USA” kind of way. You know, the way that many of us USA folks talk about how we love the USA but often can’t come up with a better reason than “because we got freedom.” We hardly have as much as we think we do, and visiting Canada sort of underlined this.

Anyhow, when I spoke to some of my new relatives from Toronto, they would go on and on with great enthusiasm about all the things they loved about their city, province and country – and not in a “we are better than you” way, but in a “we really love it here and are enthusiastic about it” sort of way.

I can’t really explain it better than to say its like listening to somebody who truly loves, say, jazz talk about what they like about it without trying to convert you. It isn’t as if they’re saying “Canada is better” or anything – more like they’re just saying “we really are happy with our country.”

Also, we saw beaver, and that was pretty damn cool – because beaver are cool in their own right and because saying “we spent a few hours looking for beaver” sounds really dirty.

Toronto was clean, friendly, and if they didn’t have to face the Red Sox and Yankees, would have a decent baseball team. I bought a Jays hat to prove this.

Also, good food. Whoa.

So, in conclusion, while I don’t plan to move to Canada any time soon, I wouldn’t object to living their in the slightest. I can’t say I feel the same way about our southern neighbor, though. I am referring, of course, to Texas.

  1. Basically we all rule, eh.

  2. Wow. I’ve never been to Canada but I’ll be visiting there soon. Hehehe I have a few cousins over there and they’re always asking me if I was going there =D

Anyway, I’m glad you had fun. Hehe I’m looking forward to go there =D

  3. I keep hearing all these wonderful things about Canada.

  4. I’ve never been to Canada, but I’ve heard it’s beautiful. It sounds like it would be nice to visit though. :)

  5. Congratulations =D

  6. next time you should come to the west coast! but be prepared for rain :p. glad you had fun!

  7. Yip, I must say- I’m pretty content with living here in Canada.

*Waves to John* Been some time eh?
