The Holiday shopping season is finally complete as Christmas is upon us, and it’s time for us to look back and have closure. The good, the bad, and of course, the ugly. Friends you made, friends you lost, things you did that made you happy, new memories, places you’ve gone…
Wait, didn’t we already have this time to reminisce during Thanksgiving?!?
This week’s WDYT? is going to be about closure, but not of the typical boring crapola you see elsewhere, with people loving everyone and thanking all their friends for being their friends - I love my friends, but I don’t need to dirty my nose every two weeks from November to December just to let them know it. That’s why we’re going to tackle a serious issue:
WHY DO YOU EITHER LOVE OR HATE SHOPPING?
I can’t stand shopping. Can I do it? Absolutely. Will I walk the malls with someone I am with to keep them company while they shop? Sure, why not?
But I do NOT like shopping, ESPECIALLY holiday shopping. People do not know how to…
• drive
• park
• be human
Just the other day, I was at the store and finding a parking spot is like trying to find a needle in the Atlantic Ocean. Not a hypodermic needle, those are abundant along the Jersey Shore.
And the unspoken rule of using your blinker to call for a spot - doesn’t count during Christmas shopping season. I parked in a spot, got out, and walked to the store. A spot opened up a few feet from me and if I didn’t jump out the way I could have been roadkill.
Inside the store it wasn’t much different. The patience people have all year long are out the door when they are trying to find something. They don’t care the person that works at the place is helping someone else, they want to find their thing right now.
And don’t get me started on the lines. One person had a bunch of things to buy, waited on line for a good 20 minutes, and when he finally went to pay, he couldn’t figure out how to swipe his card in the debit machine. The cashier had to do it for him, and when the keypad asked for his zip code, the guy started rambling about how he didn’t want the store or anyone else knowing where he lives or anything.
I only had one person to shop for this year, and that’s more than enough. For me, it’s just another day. For him, it’s when Santa comes over.
That’s a bubble I can’t wait to burst (insert evil grin here).
Now, in addition to writing about your experience (as opposed to simply replying about mine), I’m asking for your help. If you actually like this feature, spread the word. Link to TheDeadEnd.net, call it TDE:WDYT?, come up with catchy banner buttons, and let us know.
After a few reciprocate links, I may put together a links page thanking everyone involved in spreading the WDYT? project, and let’s face it… that’s what this season is about, giving.
