This time last year I was dancing down the sidewalks of this city is flip-flops and a hoody. Loving the spring and all of its warmth. The trees that line the street my store are on all bloomed with giant white flowers and there was a general glee that the warmer weather initially brings.

It’s a tradition I have that April 1st, every year, I break out my flips flops and October 1st, I put them away. The whole April showers I don’t think even applies because the last couple of years, the rain came in March leaving me and my flip-flops to be united after a long six months apart….

So this year I thought I would be smart and buy them early, February early so that I would get the best pick of comfiest, most stylish flip-flops – and I did. Maybe I jinxed myself because then came April….

I think there has been maybe three days that I attempted to wear my flip-flops. We’ve had snow and freezing temperatures and now a Nor’easter that dumped over 7″ of rain and counting on NYC!!! A record for a single day’s rain in Central Park. The temperatures have rarely gotten above 50ºF, leaving my flip-flops to collect dust in the entrance to our apartment where all of shoes wait to be worn.

Now there’s no point in complaining about the weather and so I am not complaining. What can you do about it anyway? Write a letter to the atmosphere apologizing first for your greenhouse gas emission and then beg for some sunshine? I’m just stating.

But the small amount of hope – while I was frolicking in my medium weight jacket and fur lined boots I swear I smelled SPRING. The damp, fresh smell that says winter is over. Yes, I swear I smelled SPRING!!!! It’s gotta be like, right around the corner.

Maybe it’s hiding on First Avenue.

  1. It’s not going to warm up. We are never getting Spring. I’d blame it on that whole global warming thing but that would be “warm” all the time wouldn’t it?

I think it’s going to snow in Indiana…again.

We’ve managed to avoid the snow this week – and now it’s back into the 60s! My allergies can’t take much more of this rollercoaster of weather.

Freaking Ditto what you just said! It snowed on Saturday and now it’s like high 50’s really low 60’s. My head wants to explode and I am walking around looking like a nimrod because I’m always about to sneeze. It’s entertaining.

  4. I feel your pain. We have snow here and it freaking sucks! Just to prove that Mother Earth could not part my sandals and I… I went out in the snow with my flip-flops…. Like I did in high school. Sure I was putting the dog out, and it was really cold. But I did it. so YAY! lol.
I hope this shit melts soon.
