The Ultimate Sadness

Usually I pick the Lil’ Moo up Sunday night for a couple days of debauchery. For the Fourth of July weekend, he went up with his grandmother to “The Lake” for fun and whatever madness occurs at “The Lake.”

Plans for him to return Monday came through, and I went to pick him up, but that wasn’t going to happen. He had an on and off fever, and his head hurt like crazy. His ears were bothering him, so Mommy and I deduced he had yet another ear infection.

Mommy asked him whether he wanted to come down with Daddy, and he said, “No, I want to stay with Mommy.”

Even the temptation of the circus couldn’t lure him to come down for our weekly visit, so we went for Plan B – SOME time together, a/k/a “Dinner.”

The three of us (Mommy, Lil’ Moo, and I) went to Friendly’s. Mommy and I were talking, and the Moo’ster just wasn’t into it. She got him a Shirley Temple soda, and he took a sip. Loved it, but only took one sip. He leaned on Mommy, sat and stared at the soda, and then leaned on her lap.

We ate, then left, and as we’re leaving he chimes in with, “I thought we were going to get ice cream.”

So cute. We both promised him we’d take him to ice cream sessions to make up for it. As we were driving back, he fell asleep in the car. When he woke up though, the pain apparently was back… times ten.

I stayed until he was asleep, and Mommy and I talked for a bit about how she would take him to the doctor in the morning if it was still as bad as it was. That didn’t happen, because apparently there was a blood leakage in his ear overnight.

She took him to the hospital and from what she told me (actually, from what I think she told me – I could be mistaken), he has a ruptured ear drum along with the ear infection. She told me it seems to be a common thing for young children to get with ear infections, but my first thought was, “Oh my God!”

I talked about it this week on the show with Whitters, about how I could not live without my voice or my hearing, that I could be satisfied living life without my other senses.

The prognosis is that all will be well. The Lil’ Moo’s got anti-biotics, and in a week or so the ear drum gets checked. It SHOULD heal on it’s own, but if it doesn’t that’ll be a bridge we cross when we get there.

I hope my bug’s going to be okay. I’m so scared for him right now, I can’t sleep.

I know I said it on the show, but I really do hope that he’s feeling better. Poor little guy.
