Before I went to work the other day, my son and I snuggled up and watched some Disney. “Mickey Mouse Clubhouse,” to be exact.
For those not in the know, children’s television has apparently tried to be “interactive” with their audience. It started with Mister Rogers, but with Blues Clues and a LOT of the Disney programming, the way it goes is like this. The characters stop, ask the listeners for “help,” and then praise them for being right.
So here we are, watching the show, and Mickey asks us if we’re smart enough to solve the puzzle. My son just blurts out in a total deadpan: “No.”
Mickey says, “That’s right!” to which I laugh hysterically. He joins me, then I ask him again myself.
“Are we smart enough to solve the puzzle?”
“No,” he deadpans again.
I was just talking about this the other day about how he’s been real sarcastic lately, and then he pulls this one off.
An old friend of mine used to say that kids say the darnedest things.
Mine says the best.
