Cream Soda

I know it’s not exactly the best thing to give a 4-year old but my son absolutely loves cream soda. It’s a treat I share with him when we go to the laundromat, not because that’s the only joint in town that sells it but because it gives me that Pavlov’s Dog mindset instilled in his head: If Daddy takes me to laundry, I’ll get cream soda.

Just like when we go out to IHOP for lunch. He knows that if we go, he’ll get to play in the mall’s play area. Going to IHOP means we’ll be checking out the fishies and the doggies and the rabbits at the pet store. We don’t really HAVE to, but the whole day is so conditioned that even I’ll feel weird if the pattern changes.

Now excuse me, I have clothes to put away and some soda to drink…

Lol @ the psychology 101 reference. Does he start drooling uncontrollably when you mention “laundromat?”

Mary: Thank you. I love my boy, and there isn’t anything I love more than spending time with him.

Arwen: He doesn’t drool uncontrollably - it’s not like the “Two and a Half Men” episode where Charlie and Alan are at the bar drinking their woes away and barking like a dog when the bartender rings the house bell. We’re at the point now where if I say, “We’re going to do laundry.” He actually wants to go, as opposed to him being dragged along for whatever Daddy is doing.

I see nothing wrong with giving your child something to look forward to. Most of the time your child will behave better also knowing it’s something in it for them. I treat all of my nieces and nephews like that. On another note, I HATE doing laundry. Probably because I am always the one stuck doing it. The loading, the transition to the dryer the folding, UGH! lol From what I see you are a good father.

Ooooh, I love cream soda. I haven’t had any for years! My god, it is good!

And I know what you mean about the little rituals and traditions that apply when doing something familiar. I suppose it’s what makes experiences special and unique.
