Congratulations fo Carrie Underwood for winning this year’s “contest” of singing. Only time will tell if she falls into the pits of the abyss like former winners Fantasia (”winner” season 3) and Ruben Studdard (”winner” season 2), or rise to the occasion like Kelly Clarkson (winner season 1).
I love that even though Clay won, he’s more well known than the last 3 American Idol winners. I watched a couple episodes with my roommates this year, and the only thing that made it enjoyable was making fun of Paula for being a parrot. I wonder what she’d do if she had to speak first.
Kelly is the only past idol that has any realy star potential. Clay has a certain appeal that will propel his career - but I wouldn’t call him a true star.
The only one that had that this year is Bo. But I’ve come to the conclusion the whole thing was rigged to ensure he didn’t win - since his career is pretty much gaurunteed at this point, whereas Carrie will need the title to give her any chance.
And Kelly was able to shed a few to make her career possible, so Carrie can follow that precedent.
My dear Cat, which season did Clay win? Kelly is by far the most known Idol winner, and what I think made her career is the fact she stopped being a karaoke singer that AI seems to reproduce.
I mean, how many more times could you SERIOUSLY watch Bo come out and perform “Vehicle” before wanting to punch him for sounding like Tom Jones?
