He sat at the bar with his beer in front of him. It was opened but he just stared at it. The only thing on his mind was his girlfriend. She was at home, alone, crying.

Earlier that day they had argued. They argued just as they had so many times before. It started as a simple disagreement and turned into a heated debate. They were both stubborn in their ways. He refused to see her point of view, and she lacked the patience to try and see his. But this time it was different. This time he walked out.

In hopes of saving his relationship, he made the choice to leave the house and calm down before things escalated to a point of no return. He told her he would be back. He told her he wanted to calm down so he didn’t hurt anyone.

He walked down the street to the bar on the corner. Inside he slumped down on a stool and he ordered a beer even though he didn’t want to drink. He stared blankly at the Budweiser in front of him. He rehearsed his apology over and over. When he felt he was ready, he grabbed his untouched beer and headed home.

He went to open the door, but it was locked. He tapped lightly on the door and jiggled the handle. When she opened the door he stepped in. She took a step back and told him goodbye. The she slowly raised the gun to her head and pulled the trigger. Her body fell lifeless to the floor.

He knelt over her bloodied body, scooped her up into his arms and cried. Her life had ended and it was his fault. If only he had been nicer to her. If only he wasn’t so stubborn. He removed the gun from her hand. He leaned over and whispered in her ear. “I’m so sorry!” but it was too late.

He raised her gun to his own head. He hoped that she would give him one more chance in the next life. He pulled the trigger hoping to end this life and be with her once again. He was not so lucky as she had used the only bullet on herself.

He pulled his cell phone out of his pocket and dialed. “Hello, I just killed my girlfriend!”

It was the least he could do.
