arwen, im not trying to be a bitch, but I smoke on the edge of the sidewalk- a HUGE side walk. I dont intentionally or maliciously blow smoke at people and I feel bad for people with breathing problem. My little tde entry was just to point out the rudeness that people think is okay to dole out is not okay.

The difference between smoking and buying organic, driving hybrids, etc. etc., is that unless you smoke in a secluded bubble, your smoking DIRECTLY affects other people.

I have asthma, and I always get a little wheezy every time I pass by someone smoking a cigarette. It would be futile for me to ask them to be a little more courteous with their cigarettes because 1 – I live/work in New York City, and 2 – it’s their personal choice, who am I to judge them? Even if you’re a “courteous” smoker, and you make sure you don’t blow your smoke in anyone’s face and stuff, the disgusting, noxious cloud doesn’t disperse right in front of your face. It floats off and chokes anyone in the vicinity.

So while I’m not going to scold you for smoking and “omg wut r u doin to urself?!” because it IS essentially your choice what you do with your own body, just be aware that you aren’t the only body you’re affecting, unless like I mentioned, you smoke in a bubble or you smoke in the middle of an open field in the midwest or some shit like that.

I work at a convenience store. A while back, I was outside enjoying a smoke break when a man pulls into the parking lot, gets out of his car and says to me, “ya know, those will kill ya some day.” I responded with “yea, we’re all going to die sooner or later, and I’d like to think I could have worse addictions.”
Three days later he returns to the store to purchase a fifth of vodka. I had all I could do to restrain myself, trying to remember that, unfortunately, I need this job and should keep my sarcasm to myself to avoid a complaint about my customer service skills. Someday he and I will pass one another in the store when I’m off the clock…

Its your body you can do whatever you want to it. Some people may not like it but its not theirs so they should not say shit!!!

IF you were gonna be quitting and asking for advice that’s another barrel of monkeys.
