Plotting

Every week, I put together a radio show. It’s fun, and I’ve always considered broadcasting like therapy for me.

The problem is that sitting down for three hours and blabbing about silly things going on isn’t easy. Getting audio, reading the sleaze rags, and organizing the schedule so everything runs smoothly takes time. Don’t get me wrong, when you have someone like Britney Spears running around like a piece of trash and Keifer Sutherland drunking drive (ha), it makes life easier.

For me, it’s a hobby. But once it was more than that - and although I didn’t put the same kind of show now that I do now, I still had to get an idea of what to talk about before I threw my microphone switch on.

What do you want to hear about? What’s on your mind? What can I say that you DON’T know about? How do I get in your mind?

There are times where I look at the effort I put in for the Radio X show and wonder if I should consider getting back into the business professionally. Would I enjoy it like I used to? Or would I get jaded like I did in the last year or so before I left?

Regardless, I try to bring my A-game to everything else I do. When I come up with something to write about here, I want it to be something that might captivate you. Something that could get some kind of interest from you, maybe even a comment.

I go to other blogs, and I read about some sponsor they’re pushing so they can make money on this, or that, or whatever. I’m not going to knock it if that’s what you do, because if it works for you then so be it. Some of them actually make it work for people that like to read sites because they don’t just try to put 300 words together with a couple of links, they tell a personal story with the sponsor they are promoting.

Hell, I even tried that once here. I wasn’t exactly happy with my experience so I decided not to go with it again. I personally did not feel comfortable with promoting things I never used with experiences I never had. It’s one thing if, say, Dr. Pepper came to me and decided to buy a banner spot on my site. It’s another if I get an assignment to write about how good Dr. Pepper is.

So I try to come up with something that I hope will interest the reader here. Sometimes it’s dramatastic, sometimes it’s something about my son, sometimes it’s about an event that is taking place elsewhere, and sometimes it’s some kind of creative writing.

That’s the tough part. Know what I mean?

You’d have a lot to write about if you talked about how awesome Dr. Pepper is though…

The problem I find with sponsored posts is that most of the time it doesn’t “sound” like the website owner.

Plus whatever product or service they are hawking, they always refer to it in the first person versus the third which totally irritates the hell out of me.

Just a little FYI: No chain yanking intended with my comment. =) I’m actually just online to get my email and then right back out the door. All apologies.

Like John said, the ones that make the effort to actually relate to the content they are shilling don’t bother John. The ones that feel they have to write “something” just to make a buck; those bother John.

    That’s what John says, anyway.
