It’s Memorial Day weekend in the US, which means that it’s a good time for us to look back and focus on what we’ve done the past year.

I personally have done nothing of merit except spawn a child – and since the work I did for that took place the year before I don’t think it’s right for me to take credit for that. Otherwise, my year has been pretty bleak. I started working for [EDITED], which isn’t really that big a deal. There’s the radio show I have at K-IRB but that’s not really worth mentioning, although I did get Ryan Wallace to sing “The Safety Dance” — which I’ll proudly be airing this week during Radio X. So no, I’ve done nothing of major accomplishment status to warrant any kind of public merit.

Of course, there’s the country’s Memorial Day blitz, thankfully taking away from the fact I have no life or purpose on this large rock and giving us reason to celebrate and enjoy our lives. Or at least some good hot dogs.

Got kids?

About.com has some really cool things for you to do with your family. There’s some Nickelodeon thing in Florida, some cool events in Vermont, and other cool things too. Of course it helps if you planned in advance, so this site is really worthless for my current entry.

But you can check out all the cool things you’re missing out on!

History Geek?

Memorial Day, originally called Decoration Day, is a day of remembrance for those who have died in our nation’s service. There are many stories as to its actual beginnings, with over two dozen cities and towns laying claim to being the birthplace of Memorial Day.

There is also evidence that organized women’s groups in the South were decorating graves before the end of the Civil War: a hymn published in 1867, “Kneel Where Our Loves are Sleeping” by Nella L. Sweet carried the dedication “To The Ladies of the South who are Decorating the Graves of the Confederate Dead.”

If for some reason this interests you and you want to read more, then check out the Memorial Day History page, with a lot of other information guaranteed to inform you of other things that bored me.

Want To Send A Greeting?

Every other holiday is commercialized, why not Memorial Day? Get your flag and top hat on, then go to Memorial Day Wishes, from the same people that bored you to death in the last link I checked out for you. The good thing is that unlike much else in life, this is a free service. Know anyone in the armed services? How about someone married to the service? Send them something from here, you lazy schmuck, and show them you care.

And Finally…

What kind of party would you have if you didn’t have… you know… a bunch of drunken photos? Thankfully, I don’t drink (anymore)….

Have a memorial Memorial Day weekend. And if you happen to do anything incriminating, make sure you send me any photos.

  1. Have you read about the law Sunny describes here: http://www.livejournal.com/users/sunnybananas/641984.html?

I was just thinking about that having read your update here. Is posting random boob images going to result in you getting into trouble later unless you have all of that lady’s info on file somewhere?

Yeah, the law is draconian and broderline insane.
