I have fat ankles

I’ve noticed that i am doing something I never did before. I’m going to the bathroom.

Not that I’ve never gone before, but never with such frequency.

I would leave for work around 10 and the next time I would go “take care of business” would be when I got home, usually ten hours later.

Now? Now, I find myself in the men’s room at work at least three times, and That’s including my before and after ritual at home.

But I digress. I wonder if this has anything to do with my waking up incredibly early, which I still am.

Not to worry though, because even that was topped off by something a customer said to me yesterday. “You have swollen ankles,” she said before asking if I stand on my feet a lot.

After she left, I looked at my ankles and admitted they look a little more beefy than I can recall, so now I’m trying to think about when they started looking like that. I noticed a section looked like bruises, so I go and poke and I leave an indentation, like when you see someone poke that memory foam pillow or something.

Needless to say, I got worried. My friend Jaymee told me that I should cut down on my salts and drink lots of water.

That probably means no soda.

Yeah. If things are swollen and you’re going to the bathroom a lot, it could mean that you’re retaining fluids, which = NOT GOOD. Since thats what just about killed my gram this past week.

I agree with your friend. Cut down on salts, drink lots of water, and if your ankles don’t get better, or get any worse, go to the doctor.

    What Whit said *nod*
That’s the problem mom has - retaining water. Sometimes it’s simple and has something to do with needing to not eat as much salt and drink more water, sometimes it’s more serious. Keep an eye on it.

my profession and my part-time job also require me to be on my feet for long hours during the day. my ankles have that swollen look as well, no matter how much water i drink. But maybe it’s from the numerous times i’ve injured my ankles as well..?
As for the bathroom thing, i think waking up early makes you drink caffeinated beverages, such as coffee… which i think is why i frequent the bathroom a lot as well… damn those stimulating drinks =)

Fluid retention is bad. Cut back on the salt, and drink plenty of fluids. Also, and I know this can be hard to do with work and kids: get your feet up whenever you get the chance!

Yup - cut as much salt out of your diet as possible and slam the water down seems to be the best general advice. I’m a salt addict (chips and popcorn freak) - although I really don’t consume many sweets, these other forms of junk food seem to be my weekness, and quite conveninet when your eating on the go often. I use salt substitute when I cook, and on potatoes, French fries, etc. and its really not that bad tasting. However, they make these fabulous potato chips, you might have heard of them….Ruffles, and they are my crack. I get this from my Dad, as he used to sit down with a bowl full of ruffles and the salt shaker in front of the TV each evening. Yes - he actually added salt (the real thing, no substitute crap) to his potato chips. Of course, over the years he’s realized what he’s been doing to himself and has calmed down a bit on the salt addiction.
Now, as far as consuming more water…..God, I wish I could. I hate water (plain or flavored). The only time I really crave water is the morning after a long night of excessive alcohol consumption, or when I’m sick with a cold or flu. In any case, it has to be ICE WATER - nothing less.
Anyway, you can most likely expect your frequents to the men’s room to pick up considerably from increasing your water intake….but, it is what’s best for you - take care of you ;-)
