It’s one thing to go out on Christmas day and wonder what’s open. It’s another to have a game plan and hit all the stores that ARE open.
Wait, what’s open on Christmas? The banks, post office, and just about everything else is closed. You can’t go to Target or Wal*Mart. Even the supermarkets are closed.
If you want to get new windshield wipers for your car, or a new battery for your cell phone, or maybe a burger from McDonald’s, you’ll have to wait until the 26th, because Christmas kills everything.
Except the Chinese places.
Restaurants, laundromats, and anything else with “Chinese” as a prefix were open for business. There’s a laundromat right by my house - closed. But the one I normally go to (which are run by a nice Chinese family) was open for business. I had Chinese food for dinner, and it was fabulous. Couldn’t find anything else open… not like I was really looking.
I had my mind set on dinner since Monday night, when I was talking with my friend Ashley about what our plans were for Christmas. She pre-bought a bagel so she could have something at work. She also brought up that Chinese restaurants were usually open.
It reminds me of the dinner scene in “A Christmas Story,” which I got to watch this year in it’s entirety - not that I really have to. They go to have Christmas dinner, but it’s ruined, and nobody is open but the Korean restaurant, and they end up having duck.
No, I didn’t have duck, but I enjoyed my day nonetheless. Who needs gifts?
