Great Ideas

I think it’s time for me to find a new job. Where I’m at… I don’t see any progress financially or status wise, so unless I want to be stagnant the rest of my life, it’s time to move on.

The problem is, how do I go about doing that while still keeping my job?

It’s actually been one of my biggest problems. I’ve always left a job before I had something else, but I’ve always been lucky. I had a nest egg, or I got a job quickly.

I can’t afford to do that this time, not with the Lil’ Moo. I need to do my part as a responsible father, and as such making sure I financially support him is a big part of it.

But I don’t know how to do that. I don’t know how to work it so I can do interviews or meet with people while I’m still working at the first job. How do I take time off to get to the next level?

The problem I’m having is that I’m working all the time, and when I’m not working, I’m spending the time with my son. I’d feel horrible spending that precious time I have with him job hunting, so what do I do?

I wish I could just have someone else go job hunting for me. Maybe they could go on the interviews, too. I never really liked those, either. They would go and look for the jobs, find something I’d like, meet the potential bosses, and then come back to me at the end of the day with an itinerary of what I could be doing.

I can put my two weeks in, finish my time where I’m at now, and move into the next job without a sweat. It would be awesome, and all I’d have to do is have someone else do the dirty work for me.

Now, if I could only have come up with this idea years ago for dating…

Sweetie, I am in the same boat as you are. It is hard to look for a job. But do not give up on the job you have now. Call in sick when you have interviews or take a personal day off. Start by buying a newspaper or go online to hotjobs, monster, etc. Make sure you have good resume and cover letter. you can look online to help you write one out.

interviews suck, even though i’m a happy go lucky person, I always feel nervous at an interview…………. take a few days of vacation to do the job hunting.

usually when I get bored, I just change jobs. This time I just decided to buy new scrub shirts. The change worked for a few weeks, and now i’m bored (not getting ahead professionally, personally or financially) so i’m about to change jobs again too!

Have you tried Monster.com? Or putting your resume out online at some other resource like that? If you get a lunch break you can schedule time in that time slot.
Good luck. Spending time with lil’ moo is the most important thing. And I’m glad that you as a father (unlike some I know… aka MINE) realize that you can’t get back the time you don’t spend with them.

I agree with what Kelly said. I think that’s a good way to start. You’d be putting yourself out on the market AND still be able to spend time with your son. :D

Hell, I browse the Craigslist classifieds on my work computer with my boss in the room. I’ve become pretty brazen given how much I hate my job and how much the entire BUSINESS depends on me.
