Since Dave has been covering the politics beat at TDE for the past few months, I’ve been pretty comfortable keeping my ignorant trap shut. Shut my pie hole. Zipped my lips. Kept it all bottled up inside.

Unfortunately, something happened in the last 48 hours that has me so completely baffled that I can only turn to you, oh members of the TDE community, for help in explaining it to me.

So, for once, I am posting something about the President of the United States of America that is not critical. It is not exactly positive, either. It is an expression of bewilderment; a cry for help; a last desperate attempt at understanding how politics work before sliding forever into apathy and cynicism.

Specifically, it has to do with this.

See, there was all this news last week about a CIA report that claimed that the War in Iraq has actually increased the danger of terrorism.

Then a couple days ago, the President angrily insisted that thats not what the report said and allowed parts of it to be released to the public.

Then, on his order, parts of report was released and, well, it is about how the War in Iraq has actually increased the danger of terrorism.

So my question is this:

Why would anyone make a lot of noise about a report not containing certain information when that report does contain that information and then make that report public? It makes no sense.

This would be like me shouting “I have a 14 inch cock and tomorrow I’ll post proof” and then posting a picture of me with my 2 inch cock. Not that my cock is 2 inches. It is 14. But I’m not going to show it to any of you and, thus, you’ll never be able to disprove it until my autoposy photos come out.

While I confess I am not exactly on the right of the political continuum, I’m also not one of those folks that think Bush is, ipso facto, a moron. In fact, I think he, like all politicians, is a liar and cheat. Notice I stressed all politicians. His apparent stupidity is really just a mask for lies – the same way that any politicians public face is a mask for lies.

However, while he is a liar (because he is a politician), he has previously always been a relatively succesful and effective liar. Why release a report that proves he was lieing not one day after telling the lie?

The only conclusion I can draw is that he did not actually read the report. In fact, I suspect that the folks who briefed him on the report also did not read the report. Perhaps the only one who has read the report is the guy who wrote the report, and possible his wife.

Maybe he is counting on folks to hear him say “the report is wrong” but never reading the report themselves. That way they would believe him without ever having to be exposed to anything that contradicts him.

In conclusion: we’re still screwed.

  1. He wasn’t commenting so much as to what the report was about but about what he’s been saying since day one, and it doesn’t matter who writes what report – it’s the first lie that counts. He’s obviously picked a fake story and stuck with it, and for that, he’s quite noble.

  2. You certainly do have to respect the fact that he buys into – or at least keeps selling – his own bullshit long after it is logical to do so. Sure, that may be considered psychosis… but what, exactly, would we want a sane president for anyway? Comfort?? Ha!

  3. Well it’s obvious, he reads the same words as everyone else but they have a different meaning to him. Alternatively maybe David Icke was right when he said he that Bush was an alien reptile and that they are taking over the planet.
