Speed Demon

When Madagai was sent up from Hell, he wasn’t given any special powers with which to claim souls. No, Hell is on something a strict budget as far as magical powers goes. Instead, he was given an old beat up Pinto and a gas card with no spending limit. And cigarettes. Lots and lots of cigarettes.

“You have a quota,” said Belial, the head demon in his department, “you need to make 100 people fall to evil a month. Get on it or burn.”

Turns out, Madagai and his Pinto were the best investment Hell ever made.

Most of the time, old Madagai sits around his crappy apartment watching reruns of Barney Miller. He loves that show, especially the episodes with Jack Woo. There’s this one where Woo accidentally eats marijuana brownies that makes Madagai jiggle with demonic glee.

However, during morning rush hour, he comes to life.

Madagai hops into his Pinto - a ‘72 Pinto, to be exact. Puke green with rust and tons of dents. It barely passes safety inspection - even with the generous bribe he gives the inspector. Don’t get him started on emissions standards. Heck, Madagai himself would pass that test.

Pulling on to Interstate 84, Madagai immediatly starts driving 20 miles below the speed limit. Whenever a car tries to pass him, Madagai switches lanes.

This is a simple technique, but it has proven effective enough for Madagai to break every previous record for most soul collected per month. Indeed, during his first day on Earth, he filled his quota five times over.

“This boy is good,” reported Belial to the big man downstairs.

He has been offered promotion and after promotion but he turns them all down. He’d rather have access to Barney Miller and there are no good sitcoms in Hell.
