Oh, frick, but it is raining like the devil here. Big, thick, nasty sheets of rain. The last time it rained like this, half of the island washed away – and I’m not being all metaphorical on your here. The University library was trashed but good.

Down at the library, the basement was flooded and books that were antiques, stored wisely in the basement, were destroyed with mud and sewage. Cars floated into trees. Mud filled up the parking lot at the grocery store.

One of our buildings, built half on solid bedrock and half on rock from the quarry and sod, started sliding in half as the sod was washed away.

People lost the whole first floors of their house in the more ritsy neighborhoods. Everyone else lost everything in their houses.

And I have to walk home in it.

Or float. Either way.

On the positive side, I won’t need to shower. If I drown, that is.
