Lucas stared out the window. The heavy rain fell, causing chaos for the fools walking outside his apartment. He drank from a tall glass, half filled with vodka. Life was good.
The ringing of the phone shattered his gaze. Lucas walked over to the phone and hit the speaker. “Hello?”
“Lucas, it’s John. You have to turn on the news.”
“What’s going on?”
“Just turn the tv on,” was John’s reply before hanging up.

“You stupid whore!” he screams from underneath my window.
I should have known the one night I slept with my window open would be the one night I should have just left it closed. I glance at my clock which screamed “3AM”. I roll peer down to see who he’s declaring these words of love to.
A girl, whom I don’t recognize, is sobbing uncontrollably. “It was an accident… they asked, and I thought you had already told them!” She pleads with him for his forgiveness.

A fine meal for darkness

Mariah sat on her bed with the light off, the screen of her laptop preventing the surrounding darkness from engulfing her. Silly or not, she sometimes felt as if it would do more than merely touch her skin, invading her body and ripping apart her soul as it fed on all her guilt and doubts, discarding what little of her true self that was left as if it was worse than last weeks garbage.
The question that bounced through her mind this night was whether or not that’s what would be for the best anyway, convinced that she was nothing more than a waste of space and a slave to nonexistence.

She picked up the phone and quickly put it back down on the charger. What was she thinking? This guy didn’t love her; all Doug cared about was how good she was in bed. After nearly five months of constant encounters with him, he still insisted that they not put a label on their relationship, if you could even call it that. They were merely former co-workers, who shared a few common interests, and liked to hang out together on the weekends.
