Major disappointment

I’m a big reader, and one of my favorite authors is James Patterson. Whether it’s his “Alex Cross” series or any number of his books, I pick one up and fly through it.

The problem is, I did just that with a new book “The Quickie” he wrote, and… well… I wasn’t as pleased with it as I thought I would be.

Without really going into it, in the event someone that comes to this site actually knows what a book is and decides to read “The Quickie,” I’ll give you the basic synopsis.

A woman finds her husband cheating on her so she decides to go cheat on him. What happens that night is but the beginning of a series of events that somehow is more horrible than the sequence before.

It takes place in New York, focusing mostly in the Bronx. The woman tries to find her way out of situation after situation and there are times where I find Lauren to be the luckiest bitch alive. And then she gets even luckier.

Her luck looks to be running out, things start colliding, and when the shit REALLY hits the fan, watch out.

Here’s my problem. And it’s not just this book, either.

The ending sucked.

I don’t know if I’m just being jaded, but it’s true. The last few books I’ve read, the ending completely sucked the big one. In fact, I finally got to reading “Cross” (also by Patterson) and the build-up with the whole series was a complete hackneyed letdown in the end.

I was disappointed with Patterson for the way he closed the series, but it left the proverbial “opening” to a potential future edition of another novel featuring Dr Cross. It was so tacky, though. It looked more like it was written for Hollywood than for a book.

I’m almost afraid to pick up another book. I really don’t want to sink my teeth into a story only to get shafted in the end.

That’s what the NBC line-up is for.

It must suck seeing for favourite author write crap. But I’m guessing that the series was rushed down because he had contract obligations to meet.

It wasn’t about anything I have experience in, so no.

It wasn’t a series he was writing, it was just something different. I was surprised, however.
